President's Message |
Dear Visitor:
What energizes you, fuels your daily activities, nourishes your body and provides essential nutrients? It’s not an expensive multi-vitamin or exotic herbal supplement. The answer is wheat!
Created as a nonprofit organization in 1972, the Wheat Foods Council supports the nutrition and taste benefits of grain foods. The Council aims to help increase public awareness of grains, complex carbohydrates, whole grains and fiber as essential components of a healthful diet.
In January 2005 the Federal government released the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans followed by the MyPyramid Food Guidance System in April. Both of these tools resulted from exhaustive research regarding what Americans should eat to attain and maintain health as well as what messages make sense to the average consumer. This research confirms what we have known all along, grains play a very important part in a healthy diet.
Wheat Foods Council is the grain information center. From recipes and food photography to educational materials and interactive games for kids we strive to provide the most accurate and complete grain nutrition information for all ages.
As the president of the Wheat Foods Council and a registered dietitian, I am committed to helping translate nutrition guidelines and providing up-to-date grain information and insight. Please visit www.wheatfoods.org often for valuable grain facts or contact me for questions and media inquiries.
Healthy Regards, Marcia Scheideman, MS, RD President, Wheat Foods Council
