The Wheat Foods Council Announces the Launch of New and Improved Web Site
PARKER, Colo. (February 10, 2006) – The Wheat Foods Council announces the launch of their newly redesigned Web site www.wheatfoods.org, which provides consumers, professionals and the media with a user-friendly and interactive wheat foods resource. Highlights include effortless site navigation, an enhanced and interactive recipe resource and a superior Newsroom with additional on-demand resources for the media.

“The Wheat Foods Council acts to increase public awareness of wheat, complex carbohydrates, whole grains and fiber as essential components of a healthful diet,” said Marcia Scheideman M.S., R.D., President of the Wheat Foods Council. “The new site serves as a valuable educational reference, providing instant access to credible information on wheat foods and downloadable materials such as professional resources and research as well as recipe cards and images.”

The new site highlights the most recent and pertinent information on wheat foods available and new simplified click-through options enable visitors to locate their desired information more easily. In addition, links to the USDA’s MyPyramid and Wheat Foods Council member sites enable quick access to supplementary information. The site also features downloadable nutrition fact sheets and brochures, educational resources such as posters and books for purchase, and monthly contests.

A highlight of the site redesign, is an extensive and interactive recipe section. Images and downloadable recipe cards are now available for more than 150 recipes in eight categories. Visitors are invited to rate recipes, learn which are most frequently viewed and submit their own.

A revamped Newsroom serves as a means for the media to instantaneously gather resources for stories relating to wheat foods. Media can access recent Wheat Foods Council press releases and downloadable high resolution wheat foods images in the categories of Breads, Desserts, Grains and Flour, Miscellaneous Foods and Montages.

“Our goal is to logically organize and deliver information in a way that is efficient and meaningful to consumers, professionals and the media alike,” said Scheideman. "We hope the new web site effectively increases knowledge and helps consumers find great-tasting ways to incorporate wheat foods into their diets.”

The Wheat Foods Council is a nonprofit organization formed in 1972 to help increase public awareness of grains, complex carbohydrates, and fiber as essential components of a healthful diet. The Council is supported voluntarily by wheat producers, millers, bakers, and related industries.
