Welcome to Wheat: From Farm to Fork

Welcome to Wheat: From Farm to Fork

The reference to wheat as “amber waves of grain” in the song “America the Beautiful” is indicative of wheat’s importance to our nation.  But, wheat’s ability to feed people, animals and economies throughout the world makes America’s most-consumed grain of global significance.   Despite this, it seems that many people know very little about this golden grain.

Wheat partakes in an amazing journey from the time its seed is planted until its appearance on your plate, and even then the path continues.  Once it is consumed, wheat energizes the body, delivering essential nutrients to its cells.  Wheat’s work is never done.

On these pages, you will learn all about the life cycle of the grain, including agriculture, milling, baking and nutrition, through educational materials, videos, images and blog posts.  This is the story of Wheat:  From Farm to Fork.

You will also have the opportunity to virtually experience our Urban Wheat Field, which took place in New York City Monday, October 6th through Wednesday, October 8th.  The event brought wheat’s journey from field to table to life via a live wheat field, full-size combine, a functioning mill, a baking station and nutrition lab all in the name of wheat education.  You can navigate these pages by rolling over the full-color image of the exhibit layout at the top of this page or by choosing from the following menu.
