Cinnamon Apple Crisp w/Crushed Wheat Topping

Ingredient List: 

4 to 5 cups peeled and sliced baking apples
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons water
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 tablespoons stick margarine or butter, chilled
1/2 cup crushed wheat flakes cereal
½ cup crushed honey pretzels


*Apple peels can be left on to increase the fiber content of this dish. 

Spread apples in a 9” deep pie pan coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon; add water.

Combine flour, brown sugar, and 1 tsp. ground cinnamon. Cut in margarine, using a pastry blender or two forks, until mixture resembles coarse meal.

Put the cereal and pretzels in a re-sealable plastic bag, press out air before closing. With a rolling pin crush the cereal and pretzels into small pieces. Spread over the pie.

Bake for 30 minutes in a 350 F oven. Can be served warm or cold. 

Each serving provides approximately: 190 calories; 2 g protein; 34 g carbohydrates; 2 g fiber; 6 g fat (1 g saturated); 0 mg cholesterol; 100 mcg DFE folate; 2 mg iron; 150 mg sodium.
